Acupuncture is a key component of traditional Chinese medicine. It is most often used for pain management, general wellness, and even stress management.
Acupuncture in its traditional meaning is designed to restore in a person the balance of vital Qi energy, the flows of which are blocked inside the human body for one or another negative reason. It is in order to restore these flows that acupuncturists insert needles into certain points, stimulating the nerves and muscles. According to an old legend, "the map" of points important for acupuncture was compiled by Chinese master healers in ancient times.
Western practitioners view acupuncture points as places to stimulate nerves, muscles, and connective tissue. Some believe that this stimulation boosts your body's natural painkillers.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture points are located in all areas of the body. Sometimes the appropriate points are far away from the area of your pain.
The procedure consists of three main steps:
Setting the needle. Acupuncture needles are inserted at different depths at the active points of your body. The needle is very thin, so the prick usually causes little or no discomfort.
Manipulations with needles. The needles can be gently moved or rotated, or heat or weak electrical impulses can be applied to them.
Removing the needle. In most cases, the needles are placed for a period of 10 to 20 minutes, while you lie in comfort and rest. When removing the needles, there is no pain.
After the procedure:
Some people feel relaxed or, on the contrary, energized after the acupuncture treatment.
The risk of complications after acupuncture is minimal. Common side effects include soreness and minor bleeding or bruising at the needle insertion site. Disposable needles are currently the standard of practice, so the risk of infection is minimal. Still, you may be at risk of complications, if:
1. You have been diagnosed with a blood clotting disorder and are taking certain medications. Increases the chance of bleeding or bruising from injections.
2. You have a pacemaker installed. Acupuncture, which involves applying soft electrical impulses to the needles, can interfere with the pacemaker.
3. You are pregnant. It is believed that some types of acupuncture stimulate premature birth.
